So also rent an excavator for a weekend yourself, have material delivered, distribute and compact it yourself. Depending on the price quoted, a lucrative thing.

Sure, if you know what you're doing

What price range does having it done per sqm roughly fall into?

For us, earthworks contractor, civil engineer, and structural engineer were the same company.

For us, it was just under 20€ (gross) per sqm. Without earth removal.

I have here from the earthworks contractor from the GU:

Plot access with parking space:

Excavation of soil 96m2 x 0.30m: 28.80m3 8.60€ (unit price)
Delivery and installation of gravel 0/32 mineral mixture: 28.80m3 37.50€ (unit price)
Each net.

And from one found independently:
Driveway: 5x13x0.5m = 32.5 m3: approx. 210€
Gravel installation: approx. 570€
Material approx. 65 tons: approx. 680€

How much knowledge do you really need? Boels as a rental company for work equipment is available to everyone nearby. Even better are local providers. And one phone call later, you know which material you need for a construction road and you also know the price.

Anyone can operate a vibrating plate.

Don’t let the general contractors rip you off all the time. They count on the convenience of the builders.
