Hello everyone,

we have just received our building permit and now I would like to know what costs we can expect for the retaining walls. What is the cheapest solution for such walls? A rough estimate is already enough for me.

What type of walls would you recommend?

Since our budget is already quite stretched, the question also arises whether it might make sense to not do everything right away, or if that is not sensible at all, since the excavator is going to be there anyway.

Thanks to you.

Even due to the proximity to the border, only a wall made of L-stones makes sense. With excavation and a foundation underneath, you should calculate with EUR 600.00 per running meter net. This figure is called up in [Thüringen].

Correct. Approx. 600 per meter.

Are the L-bricks 2 meters high? We have built a retaining wall made of L-bricks that is 1 meter high and paid a total of €200 per running meter, with all the neighbors saying that this was unbelievably cheap. For another retaining wall made of granite palisades (1 meter above ground and 50 cm in the ground), we paid €280 per running meter. The problem is that at a height of 2 meters, the structural engineering is completely different and the foundation must be much more solid. I estimate that it won’t be possible for less than €500 per running meter.

Take Lindlar greywacke. It is a bit more expensive but also much more beautiful.

Hello everyone,

Unfortunately, the above mail arrived too late.
There are 22 meters of wall and according to the structural engineer the L stones must be 2.30 meters high and each stone weighs almost 1.2 tons. We have now received an offer for almost 1000 per meter all inclusive. Unfortunately, that is the usual price in the Heidelberg region, I have learned in the last few days.

Thanks to you and best regards
