When I, as just happened, enter the term "Kosteneffizienz" into the search field here in the forum to first inform myself about what has already been written before opening a new topic, the result is "No results found." So "Kosteneffizienz" has not yet been considered and discussed. So let’s go:

How should the various current heating concepts actually be evaluated concerning the expected total costs over a longer period (say maybe 20 years)?

By total costs I mean
construction costs of the entire system for new builds (in our case a 130 square meter single-family house with underfloor heating):
also the necessary or not necessary infrastructure - e.g., gas connection, chimney),
estimated energy costs,
regular maintenance and possible wear repairs,
reserves for replacement after end of service life.

From our current gas heating system with a simple low-energy boiler and adjacent independent water heater - all built in 1991 - I know, however, that over 20 years I have paid around 100 euros annually for maintenance by the heating engineer and about 650 euros for wear repairs including replacement of the pump with a high-efficiency pump. (Average annual gas consumption for heating and hot water over 20 years: 21000 kWh for a 2-person household. Single-family house 130 sqm built in 1991)

The background is the statement just received from a turnkey house provider: A complete heating system with a gas condensing boiler costs 3,500 euros total, with a heat pump 20,000 euros. I feel this statement is wrong, but I have not yet heard other statements on this.

So what are the cost factors that providers of the different heating systems like to keep quiet about?

The seller may be right about the pure acquisition costs. However, you still need a gas connection for the gas boiler (about €2000) and possibly gas pipes in the house, depending on where the heating is installed. A heat pump with standard deep drilling was offered to us for an additional €17,000. However, there was a cost risk regarding the drilling. It could have become more expensive. We do not want ground collectors because we want a usable garden (trees, vegetables ...). Our Viessmann gas boiler Vitodens 300-W costs about €4000 on Amazon. Our roughly expected heating costs for hot water and heating are about €50/month, approx. 10,000 kWh/year. (Kfw 40 + solar + wood stove in the living room) The heating costs are an empirical value from an acquaintance with the same type of house and roughly the same heating habits. That means the bedroom is unheated, and in winter every evening there is wood burning in the stove. Wood costs us almost nothing. €uro will surely shake their heads now, but our concept works for us. :D It might be more efficient, but for us gas was indispensable because we cook with gas. :D

I hope the expectations are in proportion to the investment or the capital service for this ;-) Why? That is completely okay. Everyone should live with their chosen solution and be happy with it. Afterwards, it can hardly be changed, unless, for example, heating costs. Whether it is actually optimal under the specific circumstances is a completely different matter! However, it is not a universal "cure-all" for everyone!

Best regards

With my information about the current situation, I want to show that I know what I have had in consumption, maintenance, and repair costs over the past 20 years. In a system built according to the technology standards of that time and with the simplest standard gas boiler (without any regulation and also no external sensors) but with a rotary knob on the boiler: turning to the right increases the flow temperature - turning to the left decreases the flow temperature). I think that was not particularly much.

Now, if for a new building (with significantly lower heat energy demand) the gas condensing boiler is offered for 3,500 euros or alternatively a heat pump with deep drilling for 20,000 euros, and the seller tries to make it appealing by claiming only one third of the energy costs of the heat pump compared to the energy costs of the gas condensing unit, then both the gas price and the electricity price can certainly quintuple within 20 years and I would still be lower in total costs with the "cheap technology." Yes, if only I knew for comparison what maintenance costs such a heat pump would have per year...

Best regards, Jasper

Why are you even interested in that? With a heat pump, no maintenance costs are necessary, at best with an air heat pump with refrigerant > 3 kg.

best regards
