I have exactly the same concerns regarding the appearance. The problem with the external chimney or the chimney on the wall to the kitchen would be that it is then about 4 meters away from the ridge and nowadays must protrude above the ridge. Thus, you would have a "huge chimney" on the roof.

The problem is that the chimney must end above the ridge. THAT looks terrible when it is on the eaves side.

Air supply is not only possible with an external chimney.

Not everyone can handle a kit. Also 2x wall penetration? I don't know.

With (fake) brick walls and over 3m ceiling height, you can already run pipes lengthwise through the room along the ceiling. This is then called industrial look.
