Hello everyone,

I still have to build a retaining wall from Schalstein. At this location, I do not want to use masonry panels for cost reasons. For filling the stones, I roughly estimate I will need about 1.8 m³ of concrete. Realistically, what can two people manage in one day if I rent a concrete mixer (around 140 l) from the hardware store and use dry concrete (bagged goods)? Unfortunately, I have no experience with this quantity and a concrete mixer. So far, we have always mixed smaller amounts in a food bucket.

I set and filled 5 meters of wall with posts on my own.

That was 2 trailers full of gravel, started at 9 in the morning and finished by 3 pm.
But you feel it, especially since you have to fill it into the stones and not all next to them.

Then another wall to the neighbor, about 25 meters long and 1 meter high, we set together with foundation and dry concrete in one piece.

I think 3.5m3 of dry concrete with retarder in about 8 hours, we had it delivered and dumped in one pile, and gradually distributed.

From experience, I can say that with a few round dabs and a stirrer you are faster than with a concrete mixer. A concrete mixer is practical when there is a lack of labor. Then it can mix quietly while you install the other batch.

You achieve the most when the mortar is mixed by hand yourself. It also costs only a fraction. Otherwise, have it delivered. What are those, 2 Big Bags?

More like 4 big bags of sand + cement.
Or 150 bags of 25 kg each.

Plan more for a two-day job with 2 people.

I would also have the material delivered in big bags from the building materials dealer. Just picking up and loading 150 bags alone and disposing of the bags would annoy me.

A few euros (60?) for freight costs and a lot of saved work. And it should still be cheaper than bagged goods.

Charging is less of a problem. You can also reserve for pickup at hardware stores and then get the pallet loaded directly onto the trailer with a forklift. Works quite well up to 40 bags/1 ton, above that the trailers are too weak.

I put this into the calculator, please ignore costs. It's only about the quantities.
