Hello everyone,
for my construction project I have a light well (ACO) made of plastic. This light well is located right by the access path to the house.
Now my earthworks contractor said that the plastic light well would be problematic. You can't properly compact around it (whether with soil, screened soil or gravel).
He suggests removing the plastic light well and installing a concrete light well there.

What is your experience?
Another question: when and where do you need gravel and screened soil (access path, terrace...)?
For me, gravel costs about €28/ton and screened soil €18. Soil is then free.

Thanks for your response.

No problem at all. You can compress it the same way. Everyone does it, we do it like that too.

I also think it's nonsense. Of course, he can't drive over it with a tamper, but there are also hand tampers, and then you just have to compact it every 10cm within a radius of about 1-2m. It holds just as well.

What exactly is a pre-screen? Don't use large grain. Although it is more load-bearing, it is generally unnecessary for a single-family house. If you ever need to dig something up, it is much more difficult than if you use a smaller one.

He just doesn't feel like it because then he would have to work more precisely

I am not sure about that. But my shell builder installed everything made of plastic. Also in the driveway. No problem. What does the architect / site manager say about such a change?
