Cold roof - Are roof windows necessary for cross ventilation?

And what do we have then? Unfortunately, I didn’t quite understand what now is a warm roof and what is a cold roof?

For us, the insulated level is our top floor ceiling (with 2 full floors). In the attic itself, there is no insulation between the beams or anywhere on the roof slopes. We have ventilation tiles in the gable and an air gap between the roof and the masonry. So a ventilated, uninsulated attic. I had always referred to this as a cold roof. Is that correct?

No, warm roof and properly executed.

In our case, the top floor ceiling is also insulated and the eaves and ridge have ventilation grilles.

Ok, then it seems we also have a warm roof

A cold roof is when, for example, the insulation is between the rafters and this circulation only takes place above the rafters? So basically when the roof itself is colder than the roof structure?!?!

That's how I understood it.

I will look into how it is executed tomorrow. However, I don't think there are any grids or holes.

Ah, learned something new again, and still have open questions. Wikipedia explains cold and warm roofs as insulated roofs as far as I understand. Now many have an uninsulated roof; the insulation layer is the ceiling of the top floor. Can the terms cold and warm roof even be applied here? Can someone explain this?

Is a *ventilated* uninsulated attic then more of a cold roof? Unventilated would be a warm roof?
