Hello! I want to lay oak parquet in a room that is heavily used: the front door leads directly into the living area (no hallway), the open kitchen should also be covered, exit to the garden, dining area, child....) A parquet seller advised me today to use sanded but "raw" parquet, which he would treat with 2-component oil, as this would make the floor significantly more resistant. My questions to you: 1) Is 2K oil really noticeably better than regular oil, and do you consider it useful for the room described above? 2) The parquet he offered me is above my budget, namely over 100 euros. I would be willing to go up to about 70 euros if that is even necessary for sanded raw parquet. Which suppliers offer good quality raw parquet in a wide color range? Is there perhaps even a supplier who offers the same parquet raw and oiled – in the upstairs rooms 2K oil is not necessary, and I would not oil it myself or have it oiled, which also costs money 3) What experiences do you have with 2K oil? I hope I have expressed myself clearly, I have no idea about parquet and also do not know whether I am allowed to ask about suppliers (advertisement) Best regards and thanks Cornflakegirl

Hello questioner. Based on the description, I assume that the future parquet planks will be glued to the floor, as all "floating" (mechanically edge-locked) parquet elements are already factory-finished on the surface. 100,--€, well, that is a demanding price for raw planks. Especially since installation is not included in this. From the building description, it seems disadvantageous to me that there is no sufficient clean-off zone, which cannot be present if the house entrance leads directly into a living room. Whether parquet is basically a good choice there, I doubt! With a 2K parquet oil, for example from PALLMANN, some damage to the parquet surface from abrasive stress can be prevented. Whether glued parquet, surface sanding or application of a 2K oil material: professional knowledge is required here. Homeowners must face limits somewhere, otherwise parquet layers and especially masters of their craft would not have to undergo their long training period. No joke, if I give you a hint here – without knowing your personal taste and the furnishing tendency of your house – that oak parquet has a great influence on the interior design. You are therefore no longer free in that respect. More seriously: please inform yourself about synthetic rubber flooring, e.g. SENTICA or SIGNA. An interesting, yet unobtrusive (also in color) design according to your wishes – and what dirt and stones get brought in from outside, this type of flooring does not care about in the least! This just as a tip! Regards: KlaRa (Expert office for floor damage)

For an entrance area, I generally find wood too delicate. You always end up bringing in a few little stones, sand, etc. on the soles. That will look more or less unsightly quickly.

Thanks for the kind responses! I have been to quite a few parquet installers and keep hearing different things. It is confusing. I have looked at quite a few design floors but somehow I still have a bad feeling, it’s not for me. I will google Sentetica and Signa now. Thanks for your opinion and advice! Best regards

For parquet flooring directly behind the front door, I would always take off my shoes when entering. Shoes quickly scratch the parquet, and it must not get wet either. The problem with parquet for me has always been cleaning. Since you are only allowed to mop with a slightly damp cloth, you never get the floor really clean.

Best regards
Sabine
