We had the roof of my parents' house redone about 20 years ago; in red and not shiny. When I look at the neighboring roofs—also in red—I simply think that the cheapest roof tile was used (they were renewed at the same time). Our roof still looks as if it were newly reroofed recently

I should have had that as an argument before building the house.

Don't worry; your house looks good!

In my opinion, roofs are like everything else. If you buy cheap, you pay twice (and regret it later). There are reasons why some suppliers can offer prices so low; it’s always a sum of many small things that often turn out to be the wrong (purchase) decision in the end. But then it’s too late.

Just yesterday I heard again that our offer was too expensive, "EUR 20" too expensive. That simply cannot be the case with a comparable BB; it is often the supposed small details that suffer from a "better" equipment (e.g., sanitary objects). For example, thin floor slabs, very low insulation, or cheap roof tiles. Unfortunately, the interested party was deaf to this objection. Her focus lies solely on the topic - how much more can I afford through this "saving."

Many houses were built next door in this way. The bill came for some already after 2 years. One house had settled so much after two years that, among other things, the front door had to be replaced.

We were the only ones here with soil surveys and plate load tests. That’s why we also excavated 1.45 m and filled 1.60 m to get above street level and the watercourse. The others only scraped off the surface. Their earthworks cost almost €4,000, ours €16,000. Now regular visits come from next door whenever there is something wrong with their houses, asking us exactly how, why, and with what methods we built.

But: Being stingy is cool... why pay more... Advertising and the internet also often influence in this direction.

Thank you very much for the comments. We are allowed to choose a clay roof tile from our construction company during the sampling (Creaton, Braas/Rupp). I have no idea if that also includes cheap tiles. How can I recognize good quality? Best regards, Steffi.

They are already very good brands - we have Creaton Premion (through-colored, fired harder).

Of course, no long-term experience - they just look nice (matte) and you can't see any cut edges.
