Hello everyone,

our basement floor is half embedded in a slope. At the back, this results in three basement rooms in which the controlled residential ventilation system central unit is also housed.

The rooms are not heated. Each room has a basement window.

Is it sensible/common to install supply air also in the basement rooms?

Thanks in advance
Christian

We have exhaust air in the laundry room and supply air in the hobby room despite [Kellerfenstern]! My neighbor has no [Kellerfenster] but instead the controlled residential ventilation in the basement. So yes!

Why do you ask?

Our installer said that you actually don’t need anything there and it would be enough to leave an opening on the distributor.
He also said that moisture could form in an unheated room due to the supply of warm air. That point actually seems logical to me; moisture from the warm supply air condenses on the cold surfaces.

I overlooked that the basement is not heated. What does Aunt Google say?

Why are these unheated and why supply air? Normally, in the basement, a controlled residential ventilation system is also installed. Living spaces receive supply air and other rooms exhaust air.

So something doesn’t fit in your planning!

Using the controlled residential ventilation system for the unheated basement is actually prohibited. Supply air is ruled out for the mentioned reasons and only exhaust air inevitably leads to negative pressure and then draws air from the living area - at the latest when the basement door is opened - and you end up with the supply air problem again.

Supply the basement with a decentralized, separate ventilation system.
