In 2005, the Ramazzini Institute started a lifelong study on Sprague-Dawley rats to investigate the carcinogenic effects of high-frequency radiation. This study has now been completed and encourages reconsideration of the classification of high-frequency radiation as possibly carcinogenic to humans (Group 2B). Already in the early 2000s, studies were published showing that people who use mobile phones have a significantly increased risk of developing schwannomas (benign tumors originating from the peripheral nervous system) and brain tumors. More recent case-control studies also confirm this increased risk. Experimental studies, on the other hand, were largely insufficient due to too short experiment durations, too few test animals, or incorrect exposure conditions. The study by the Ramazzini Institute, however, features a total of 2448 test animals.
