Hello home builder,

I am back from vacation and now have a few updates.

We plan to go ahead with the breakthrough without a structural engineer after all.
We want to continue the 240mm basement wall into the ground floor.
Therefore, we want to reinforce the 115mm wall with calcium silicate brick to achieve a 240mm wall.
On this, a medium-weight beam 3m long (HEB220) should lie on 0.5m of remaining wall.

Thus, the upper floor will again rest on the same cross-section of masonry as before.

We see no major concerns.
Despite everything, I am always glad to get another opinion. Do you see any concerns?
You still have more experience than I do.

I understand that you cannot look into a crystal ball in the forum and cannot guarantee what you say.
Everything happens at my own risk and responsibility!

Regards, Klaus.

One does not necessarily have to want to evaluate dangers. An apparently plausible back-of-the-envelope calculation does not replace a structural engineer. Statistically speaking, every house is a house of cards, and the structural engineer is the collapse prevention officer. I would not save money at this wrong end.

Besides, I also consider it nonsense in detail to place a sand-lime brick wall shell in front of a brick wall of unknown density. Statistically, this does not create a 24 cm wall in any way; that is naïve thinking. Collapse for beginners.

So you made it.
I spoke with a local structural engineer who has reviewed the plans in advance.
"He recommends a bending-resistant steel frame."

The calculation and order placement will take place after the bathroom and kitchen are renovated. Additionally, the cast iron downpipes must be replaced with plastic as priority 1. If there is enough money left, the breakthrough will be made.

I will get back to you on this topic again before the order is carried out and upon completion! It will be September - October.

Regards Klaus
