Hi, we want to build a garage attached to our house, which is made of 38 cm Ytong blocks.

The garage should be made of 24 cm Ytong blocks.
Masonry will be done on 3 sides.
The side along the house will not be built.

We want a flat roof with EPDM membrane.

I have attached a sketch for you.

Do you think this would work like this?

What is the best way to build up the roof?

Maybe there are structural engineers here who can calculate this for us?
Of course, we would also pay for it.

We do not need an official calculation, architectural drawing, or anything else from the city or building authority.

Why Ytong? It only makes thick walls and thus costs you space. 17.5 sand-lime brick, plaster on top. No cost difference and a normal person can also lift it.
On top of that a ring beam, then the roof.
Roof made of reinforced concrete. For the self-builder, prefabricated elements would probably make sense, you hardly have the amount of formwork boards and supports and you don’t want anything falling on your head either.
On top of that a sloped screed for the water inlet – where is that supposed to go exactly?
I would also assume that the construction needs to be a bit higher to properly shape the roof. You are probably also missing an upstand/parapet?

EPDM is expensive. Bitumen membrane also works and is better suited for DIYers in my opinion. The membrane has to be properly stretched, you need cutouts for penetrations, etc.

For the statics, you can consult a structural engineer on site, right?

As a guideline, about 800 euros was wanted by a structural engineer with proof for the building authority from the neighbor. Some even wanted 1500 euros.

As a tip, if you order a prefabricated ceiling, the statics for the ceiling are usually included.

But guckuck is right about the bricks, you are wasting a lot of space in the garage.

For example, we used 24cm poroton bricks for a 6x6m garage and poured the ceiling on site.

We actually didn’t find 24cm Ytong to be that space-consuming. Especially since we only need to build on one side in terms of width.

So we would only save 7cm here.

Water should drain backwards into the rain gutter.

Right, an attic wall is also still missing.

We can’t go much higher since with the roof construction we are allowed a maximum forest area of 25m² (toward the neighbor).

The neighbor has a bitumen membrane and only problems with it, leaking etc. And he built the whole house himself, so he has a bit of knowledge.

Structural engineers on site all have a lead time of 8 weeks but we need to start now.

A structural engineer would have charged 250-300€ for the plan (architect) plus statics.

Gutter on a flat roof?!
The nice thing about a flat roof is, among other things, that the drainage can be done invisibly inside. Core drilling through and simply down with a downpipe. On top, the appropriate slope.

That's almost a gift. It won't get any cheaper.

Well, what can one say to that now ...
You save yourself the weak point "weld seam" with EPDM, but otherwise the possible problems are the same. Laying out the membrane and attaching it everywhere is just as error-prone a job.
