Thank you very much for your answers. So you don't think we are too old? We would of course sell the apartment to be able to bring in enough equity. The purchase price of the house was just an estimate (searched on Immoscout), we don't have a property yet. We would actually like to be finished by retirement, I don't want to have to worry about loans and debts then.

Where is the problem if a (small) residual debt remains at retirement? You are still better off than the majority of the population who still have to pay rent in old age. I know, it feels better. But that is irrational and only for the feeling.
