Hello,

we have purchased a former cornfield and plan to build a house and garden on it.
The corn stalks still protrude about 10-15 cm from the ground,
the previous owner (farmer) said he will chop them up for us,
so that the soil is even and only covered with corn straw, the roots remain in the ground.

Now the question:
does anyone of you have experience with something like this?
Can the roots still cause problems later when building / landscaping the garden?
Plowing, according to the builder / farmer, does not make sense because the soil would become too soft / unstable.

Hehe, is corn a perennial plant whose roots snake several meters? I doubt it Sorry, I have to disappoint you – even as a layperson: you bought a normal field: no reason to overvalue or undervalue it

Hi, I would be worried that wild boars miss their "lunch table" and devastate the garden...

First of all, you should clarify whether you are allowed to build there at all. Everything else is secondary for now.

Oops, you are absolutely right! I assumed it was building land, but that is not mentioned at all in the initial thread.

there is this great Chinese corn schnapps. I would find it a shame to convert this land.
