Hello,
we are also currently building. In the next few weeks, the screed will be installed.
Now our builder wants to put 3 dehumidifiers in the house for 2 months afterward. However, we would prefer to do without them and get rid of the moisture by airing out. The builder advises against this.
Can someone give us tips on whether dehumidifiers are really necessary or if the moisture can be controlled without them?

Thank you in advance for your opinions.
Best regards
Steffi

Hi!

With underfloor heating, it is probably not necessary. Otherwise, we also thought we could do without it. At first, we aired out for 2 months - without success. Then we heated and aired out for 3 weeks - also without success. Then we set up one(!) very powerful dryer - and carried water out of the house in tubs.

The screed was ready to be covered after 10 days.

Best regards, Tomtom.

Hi,

the screed should also have the chance to cure properly. If the water is removed too quickly, it will become brittle. So be careful with drying too fast.....

We dried our building with the heating. So, the screed came, shortly after the heating system, and then it ran a program. The heat was gradually increased, stayed at the highest temperature for several days, and then cooled down again. Well, the screed was installed in our case in summer, so the summer warmth also contributed to the heating. I think it is quite important to dry the building.

Best regards
Christine

Cost reasons - 2 months 3 construction dryers we find a high possibly unnecessary electricity consumption
