I have an appointment at the Sparkasse tomorrow and will get advice on what would be best for us, meaning equity and what we can afford.

Good luck! I have learned that 50 percent of such conversations can be thrown in the trash, but the other 50 percent provide valuable new insights. Therefore, you don’t get any worse off because of it. Maybe new ideas will emerge for you/for you all.

Prepare well for the conversation. Bring along documents related to the planned property, building plot, income statements, ongoing expenses listed in detail, if already available. Express your wishes as precisely as possible (vacation, family planning....) Only in this way will you get a realistic picture of what is feasible.

I really wonder how anyone even gets the idea of "buying/building a house" there? Low income and no equity at that age are normal. But I would never have thought about building a house in my early 20s. That is totally absurd..
