it’s still a ruin after sinking, I would make 1-2 short wall pieces across at some spots, for stability against falling over and as a base for pots/decorations

Mortar? Expensive?

25 kg for 2.50 net.
Sand as well, costs almost nothing in comparison.

It just makes me sick when I hold about 5 grams of plastic (e.g. ventilation slot for clinker) in my hand and pay several euros for it.

Back then, yes, it was the old house, and I often go through those "I have to produce something" phases...

I probably had the housewife version back then, "small in the bag, but big on price." As a city dweller, you don’t always have a clear idea where or how to get sand...
It already sounds a bit more doable here, since there are building material suppliers nearby :)

Sand? A colleague found a building material dealer where the sand for the sandbox (not play sand, just regular sand) is free if the children shovel it themselves. Unfortunately, it's too far away, I would spend more on travel than the sand costs. Especially since there is about 1 cubic meter of sand in the sandbox.

Always compare prices including delivery. The landscaping gardener in our town started a small building materials business. The last delivery cost 5 euros for 2 cubic meters of sand. He once unloaded a smaller amount of gravel without charging delivery fees. They were on their way to a construction site anyway, so it was convenient.

cool idea! More people should do that. My boy is always enthusiastic when he gets to shovel something. Well, the endurance leaves something to be desired, but that can still be trained.

And in case you still develop respect for your IchmauereineMauer work frenzy :p : how about a Benjes hedge? Also nice and rustic and no problem with foundation and frost-free and so on...
