A common mistake when tiling is that the floor tiles, which are usually laid on a floating screed, touch the wall tiles or the wall. This negates the floating property, which can lead to stresses building up, chipping when the screed settles, and the transmission of structure-borne noise. If one wasn’t able to be on the construction site before setting the skirting tiles to check this, unfortunately something was missed. I had to discover this frustratingly at our new build this week and immediately filed a written complaint. So far nothing has happened and the skirting was still installed, but in the end someone wants to get paid. And guess who then has the upper hand…

I also see external impact as the most likely cause here. However, considering the pictures, I find the mop rather unlikely. It doesn't look like it has ever been used in the shower. :p Just as a side note: The paragraph in the contract states "within permissible tolerances." So they can't justify everything. Whether cracks in tiles – if it's not tenant damage – fall under this, I don't know how to assess.
