Border wall NRW heights

Hello Nordmann,

the height of the sound barrier wall basically depends on the stipulations in the development plan and/or the corresponding municipal ordinance. If nothing is specified there or if these legal sources do not exist, the neighbor law NRW potentially applies in connection with other legal sources (building law etc.).

It is quite possible that you will get a deviation because the building-law permissible wall does not meet the sound insulation requirements, but this actually has to be examined on site and your impairment must first be formally established. The air heat pump will presumably be considered a subordinate component that may underrun the boundary distance of 3m - which would legitimize the location, then it is only about the noise and how to reduce it to a bearable level for you.

Best regards

Hello Dirk,
Thank you very much. For now, we hope for an agreement. In our society, which certainly is not lacking rules, it was unimaginable for me that such installation locations are allowed.
Well, now I know better. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY I have to build a shelter or something similar there, with a very dense outer wall. Totally annoying, because I am not causing the emissions.
Not that anyone thinks I am against heat pumps; however, a ground source heat pump is humming in my house. I save energy, so I have to endure it. But my neighbor has no impairment from my system.
Now with the neighbor’s air heat pump, it’s exactly the opposite: He hears nothing, I hear everything.
That’s how neighborhood fun works...

That is annoying.

Our neighbors initially wanted to place the outdoor unit of the air-to-water heat pump right on our boundary as well. At that time, I didn’t say anything – I simply didn’t know how disturbing the noise from the device would be. It’s not very loud, but at a distance of a few meters, it is definitely noticeably audible. I can certainly believe that such a thing can be very annoying in the long run.

Fortunately, he changed his plans: the piping lengths and civil engineering would have been too expensive for him. The aesthetically pleasing fan housing is now right next to his house and hums away where it really doesn’t bother anyone else. The other neighbor across the street placed his unit right next to his front door, which also doesn’t bother any other residents. However, aesthetically, with that beautiful house, it is a complete visual disaster. I was lucky here.

Regarding your neighbor: I personally always see the greatest chances when one discusses without aggression and objectively with arguments. But it is also important to make clear what exactly bothers you and why.

Maybe the neighbor is willing to do something together with you so that the burden can be shared financially. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you.

Best regards
Thorsten

Thank you Thorsten, I really hope so, after all I don't want any quarrel either, that's just completely lame especially among neighbors.
.....but I didn't start....
I once had an air conditioner, the outdoor unit used to get on my nerves so much! Therefore I unfortunately have experience with something like that and was accordingly impressed by the sight of this device.
Especially since I have already admired the device on the internet thanks to Aunt Google. A real beast with 69dB sound output.
