We are getting a steel enamel bathtub that is to be placed in a Styrofoam tub carrier – partly for insulation reasons and partly because of noise, as such tubs sound weirdly hollow without a carrier. Actually, this was all agreed upon with the plumbing guy, but now he suddenly said he hasn't installed such a part for two years because some customers (apparently only after 1-2 years) complained that the carrier squeaks. Great that the guy always comes up with such things at the last minute... especially since he had previously submitted an offer for it.

We actually don't see a problem with that; you could also additionally insert felt or a "Gleitfilm" (whatever form that might take).

How have you solved this? Does anyone perhaps have such a tub carrier in use? It should be one from Schedel.

I already had to tear out a five-year-old shower tray because the Styrofoam tray carrier had given way and then everything became leaky. My current plumber also only installs these steel frames and additionally supports them with wooden blocks...

That has been done that way for decades, with Styrofoam, and it worked, I would not allow any extra charge here. Installation as per offer. Period.

Hello

I installed my bathtub with such a styrofoam carrier. The bathtub fits snugly in the carrier. What is supposed to squeak? And what is supposed to settle?
You just have to make sure that the floor is level before the bathtub carrier is placed.

My plumber also said that was nonsense. He then simply placed the shower tray on Ytong blocks that were cut to fit, and it holds perfectly.

Hm - I actually don't want to have Ytong in the sanitary area anymore. They tend to become more "pasty" in consistency when exposed to moisture for a longer time...
