Hello,

we bought a house from the 60s half a year ago and completely renovated it.

So far, we also had no problems with craftsmen or similar (except for the material), whether bricklayers, window makers, sanitary or electrical, everything worked out.

In the course of the renovations, we also renovated the bathroom and had new tiles laid (based on effort), and now, for the first time, there have been disagreements.

The bathroom is about 15 sqm and rectangular in shape, see also pictures.

Wall tile 30x60
Floor tile 120x120 - the same also on bathtub and shower approx. 56 sqm

Based on your expertise, how long do such tiling jobs usually take, and what are the approximate costs here? Only related to the laying itself (without material etc.).

The hours invoiced to us will be communicated later (impartiality).

Thanks for your expertise

Regards
RZ

I'm not a (tiles) specialist.

For the large formats, the small niches, etc., I would roughly estimate from 40 hours. With sealing, additional efforts in existing structures, etc., possibly silicone work, the whole thing could increase to 80 hours.

As an exchange of experience, you’re welcome to wait for other numbers, but if you agreed on a time-based arrangement, the issue is already settled. Weren't you able to supervise the effort on site?

Hi,

thank you for your feedback.

But I was regularly on site and the tiles were laid within 1 1/2 weeks - at times there were 2 tilers there.

In my calculation, there are around 113 hours ~ 4,000 EUR which matches your information.

Thank you, apparently I had wrong assumptions here.

Yes, giant formats are much more difficult to install. How long, I don't know. I would probably have expected double the time like 30/60… For the next bathroom, you’ll do a flat rate for the entire bathroom :)

For the large formats, it is certainly 2 tilers. 1 week to lay. With 2 men, that is about 80 hours. Then sealing, silicone, etc. I think a good 100 hours.

But it doesn't look like it was done poorly. I, as a layman, see no mistakes or inconsistencies. In my opinion, the first mistake was already made with work based on effort. Tilers know exactly how long things take. You can easily agree on a price per square meter for different formats.
