Using the old basement for the new building is not an option?

Hello.

I may be a construction layperson, but I can't imagine that it works to simply fill in the existing cellar and build a new slab on top.

The entire "filling material" most likely also needs to be compacted in some way to ensure sufficient stability when the new building stands on it (unless you fill the whole cellar with concrete...).

In addition, wastewater, fresh water, and possibly drainage pipes must also be laid somewhere. How should that work then?

Either I would consider Masipulami's idea or, as an alternative, completely tear out the cellar, fill it, compact it, and then build on top.

Although it's actually a pity to fill in the already existing hole. That probably won't be cheap either - I would get quotes on what the whole thing costs and then compare what a new cellar costs if the hole is already there...

Regards,

Dirk

Thank you for the answers. Basement is not an option for us because of the moisture. Now the question is whether we include the intermediate ceiling in the "hole" and leave all walls standing or only remove them slightly, or if we should have everything excavated. Cost: demolition and filling max. 3-4 k€ and a lot of work.

Hello Majohr,
simply throwing the intermediate ceiling into the hole could cause problems due to illegal waste disposal. To create a proper building ground, nothing will remain but to completely demolish the basement and fill the resulting excavation with compactable material, compacting it layer by layer.
The argument against a basement should not be the moisture, as this can be controlled. It is the costs if you want to do without a basement.
However, one should think carefully about this renunciation, as it could be a real sacrifice!

Hello Dirk,

It depends ....

We have construction sites where we use the demolition material for the new build and sites where this material is completely unsuitable. Talk to your geologist and civil engineer; if the material from the old basement can be used, the cheapest solution is to compact the basement hole.

Either way - completely demolish and found and compact according to the specifications of the geological report.

Best regards from the Rhineland

Are the basement walls for the new [BV] even load-bearing? Are the old foundations sufficient for the new load? In any case, the damp walls could lose their strength and thus their load-bearing capacity over the years.
