Banks do not like cross-border commuters. I believe it is due to the low job protection in Switzerland. Acquaintances felt like they went to about 20 banks until the financing worked out because the main earner was a cross-border commuter.

Exactly, see Residential Mortgage Credit Directive. Disclosure requirements, foreign currency, etc. There are certainly banks that do it.

Does it mean that we, as cross-border commuters, have fewer chances of getting a loan and if at all, not with the remaining 1% interest, right?

Only the bank/a financial intermediary can tell you that. Since I am one of the people working on the German side, I can only tell you secondhand. It is best to arrange a few phone calls and clarify which banks also finance cross-border commuters and how this affects the amount and interest rate.

Hello, you should visit your local bank and discuss everything. There are border-near banks, usually in the town, that are familiar with this and offer financing. It won't be the 0.3% offers but market conform. That is the price you pay as a cross-border commuter. It is more difficult to access income if you can no longer pay.

You write that your wife wants/should find a better job? That will also make things more difficult. Also in the constellation with parental allowance & cross-border commuter.

An experienced broker in your region would not be a bad idea either.

We spoke with a large bank and the following applies:

- those who earn in CHF must also take the loan in CHF
- interest rates are not that different, e.g. cross-border commuters can also have 1.1 - 1.2% interest
- according to my information regarding salaries, the bank is willing to finance up to 800k
