Assessment of bungalow floor plan

When I say architect, I always mean the type I recommend exclusively: the independent architect commissioned by the client. Precisely because of such conditions with contract architects from house providers, who are supposed to adapt standard floor plans to client wishes for flat rates. This model is unsuitable for the interests of the clients.

Well, it’s a bit like you’re trying to say that only Mercedes is good for driving and all other models are insufficient. I would also like my customers to always buy the best. But neither the market nor people are like that, nor fashion, nor the wallet, nor simply the capacity on site.

That’s where the suggestion came from to build entirely without an architect but only with a structural engineer... if you have a design that you like. However, we now believe that we are definitely better off with an architect.

Absolutely. The structural engineer is only the specialist responsible for ensuring that the building doesn’t collapse – design consultation is not part of their duties. And a construction contractor’s drafter also doesn’t advise against planning errors as long as these don’t prevent approval. Go to the architect, that’s a good idea. The idea of not coming empty-handed is also good – but the contribution doesn’t have to be a half-finished plan. Even very rough scribble sketches and a wish list are a good starting point for a conversation.

For getting from A to B, the Opel is enough for me; I take the Mercedes for longer distances ;-)

A house that is only mediocrely planned to suit the client doesn’t cost a penny less with the same features. The "extra cost" for a self-paid architect is well spent.
