We own an old building from 1921. We do not know how old the respective connections are. We received no information from the previous owner. Next week I will call the [Staftwerke] and hope they can tell me when what was installed. Inside the house, everything is now new (renovation 2017). At least the power cable that "comes in" from outside does not seem very old.

How old are connections reasonably "allowed" to be? Next year, in any case, a tightness test is due here so that we can also insure the corresponding pipe break. Of course, it may also be that we first have to renew the connections then (it is about 4m to the street, so hopefully the costs will be somewhat manageable). In the front yard, we cut down a sick birch. Its roots could theoretically already have damaged the connections. Gas, water, and electricity are connected. At the moment, of course, we hope that the gas connection is still relatively new and that the other connections were also renovated at the same time back then. The gas heating system was installed in 2010. We do not know if gas heating was used before. We have also received no information from the previous owner regarding this.

Does anyone have experience? What is the usual expiration date for water/sewage, electricity, and gas connections?

Normally, the connections entering the house with the handover points are the property of the supplier, who also maintains the connections and ensures operational safety. In the case of a comprehensive renovation of the internal house installation, the respective installer may ensure that the connections from the supplier are revised or renewed.

According to the municipal utility company, everything from the house to the first branch is within our area of responsibility. That was the statement on the phone. However, I need to review it; based on experience, you often get incorrect information over the phone. In the building insurance, we had to forego insurance coverage for the few meters from the basement wall to the branch because there is no current leak test. However, this must definitely be carried out by a specialist company by 2025, as mandated by law. In any case, I have received the plans for electricity, water, sewage, and gas, and everything is completely different than expected. We have an end-of-terrace house. Our gas connection runs through the front yard of the direct neighbors, and the gas then comes over to us through the middle of their basement. The pipe, which is already half embedded in the wall there, looks very old. Our gas distributor or whatever you want to call it, dates from 1995. I do not know how old the supply lines are (i.e., everything from the street to that box). Our water and sewage are located two houses away in the front yard of other neighbors; the installations (cast iron... look like original 1921) run in their basement exterior walls, over the direct neighbors to us, and come out of the outside wall of our basement. Only electricity runs in our front yard and then divides into the neighbors' and our connection. That will be interesting when it needs to be renovated or if damage occurs. Luckily, we have good neighbors. As for the location of the telephone lines, I am not any wiser yet; I am still waiting for an answer.

Inside the house, as mentioned, everything has been renovated. Only the supply lines are the ones that were already there before. From the electrical/gas box/house water filter onwards, everything is new.

Municipal utilities are often still small independent suppliers with peculiar regulations. I am also familiar with these double electrical connections; in our area (EWE), they are separated during renovation without Mullen and Knullen, and each household receives its own connection at no cost. Perhaps contact with an installer who is also approved by the municipal utilities (important) might help.
