Hello dear ones :-)
I have been a silent reader for quite some time, and have finally created an account.
We are currently in the middle of garden landscaping, right now we are building a wall, I’ll explain briefly so you know what it’s about.
I made a trench for a strip foundation, inserted formwork, and filled it with concrete; the foundation turned out very nice. It is 13.5 meters long, 70 cm deep, and 50 cm wide.
On this foundation we made a thick bed of cement mortar (2-4 cm) and placed our chosen stones on top (50x25x15, concrete, nearly 50 kilos per stone).
My father and I laid the first row of stones, candles straight, everything level.
The next rows of stones will be laid offset by half a stone, partly because we like how it looks better, and partly because we have heard it provides stability. The wall is supposed to be one meter high and will have one side facing the terrace where we sit, the other side facing the soil (our garden is terraced, there are 3 levels). The wall will be properly backfilled towards the soil edge when the time comes. Waterproof membrane to protect the wall and so on is all in place.
Now to the question: we don’t want to lay the further rows of stones in mortar but want to glue them with a mounting adhesive. However, we don’t know which one is suitable because every hardware store expert tells us something different.
Of course, it should provide maximum stability (although we’re not worried that the soil will ever come against us, but the small slope of 80 cm will surely push a bit when it rains heavily...) and be suitable for outdoor use. We want to glue stone by stone, planned are still 5-6 rows about 15 cm each.
I look forward to your answers.
Best regards
Christoph
