Hello everyone,

the construction is now slowly progressing and the financial plan can now be settled piece by piece with the actual costs. It’s time for us to gradually finalize the details.

From the beginning, we wanted a brick facade (mainly for aesthetic and durability reasons) and also had a construction company that offers a double-shell wall as standard. For other reasons, we parted ways with them. The current contract is based on a normal plaster facade, the brick issue has been postponed. The wall structure consists of 36.5 cm aerated concrete without special thermal insulation.

Now we should/want to decide slowly. Since the appearance is mainly important to us anyway, brick slips would definitely be sufficient. The decisive question now is, what additional costs compared to the planned plaster facade must we expect? The construction company would subcontract the work. We have already been informed that only a very small part of the plaster facade can be credited, since on the one hand the elaborate preliminary work and the base plaster must be carried out equally and on the other hand a stronger, reinforced and thus more expensive base plaster must be used for reliable adhesion of the slips.

1. We are talking about a facade area of approx. 290 m² without excessive window recesses. Can we manage with a currently available budget of 20,000 €?

2. Does anyone perhaps know suitable companies in Saxony with whom there is already experience? Saxony is not exactly a brick region.

Many thanks!

Only the straps will already cost you around €9. Processing at least the same. It will at least be tight, unless you find an inexpensive clinker.

For the stone itself, I get prices here from the building materials trade. Only for the labor costs or the time involved, I have no clue.

Unfortunately, I cannot provide exact values. But as a guideline: Our mason covered and grouted a wall of about ~12m² in the living room with thin bricks in [Reichsformat], and it took him around 10 hours, resulting in approximately 1.2m² per hour. Now, this was a smooth wall without corners or recesses and easy to reach. I would therefore calculate at least 1 hour per m².

ok, thanks. That is at least a starting point. And it also shows that it probably won’t be enough. A pity.

I think tomorrow we will get a concrete offer. The rest immediately declined. It’s no fun dealing with the trades at the moment.
