Everyone simply has different ideas about life and living. I find a nice view from the dining/work area much more important than possibly 3 or 4 meters of walking distance. Walking a few steps hardly harms anyone. Letting your gaze wander over the landscape while eating is (for me) simply quality of life.

A nice view should not be underestimated, but practical usability still means: practical!

No, quality of life also belongs to practical usability. If I have to look at an ugly wall where I spend most of my time, I will not be happy there, no matter how practical everything else is.

I can quite agree with your definition.
As a criterion for decision-making, practicality indeed plays an important but ultimately subordinate role in our lives.

Yes, those are just different needs. Come to my age, you might be grateful for every step or every meter that doesn't have to be walked. Because there comes a time when you have to pay more attention to your feet and not the view. But young families with children are also glad that some things are more practical in nature. Nobody deliberately builds impractical, ineffective, or dysfunctional. Not only the trend uses these qualities as a template for successful house designs ;)

I also see the access to the house as an issue, especially because it cannot be solved through investments. Climbing the Eiger North Face every day with a child - on the other hand, people also live on the 3rd floor without an elevator and don’t have a nice view.

We are now going on vacation for a few weeks. I’ll let the issue simmer. With your comments and more research, it’s clear that the renovation will be significantly more expensive. That could only be financed if the sellers were willing to make massive price reductions. Since the house has been listed for so long, I do not assume that will be the case.
