Hello!

I would like to know who has already worked with soundproof drywall, what are your experiences? Is the purchase really worth it, is it more noticeable than just doubling the drywall?
I am currently considering whether such a purchase is worthwhile?

Yes, I have already worked with it, I also used drywall with sound insulation at our holiday home in Austria. The advantage is that you save a lot of time, especially the filling of the first layer is eliminated. The two layers of the board are also bonded with a special adhesive that additionally insulates sound. Especially since there is not much difference in price, I would say it definitely pays off. You must not forget that already 10db corresponds to a halving of the volume, meaning I would pay attention to every dB that can be saved.

We also wanted the bedroom and children's room to be particularly soundproofed since they are all separated from the open rest only by a door/wall. The drywall installers then recommended that instead of the special boards, we use the regular ones but triple-layered. Normally it would have been double-layered. However, it also depends on the profiles used, the insulation, and the installation.

For example, on Knauf’s homepage, there is a very nice overview showing how much dB reduction each construction provides.

Of course, the weakest point is always crucial. The wall is useless if the door (e.g., because of hollow core) or the door frame (e.g., because not properly foamed) do not provide good insulation.

I can tell how it works for us in a month. Then we will (hopefully) have moved in.

@ Komposthaufen: Which ones did you use there then? And how exactly did you do the triple use, are there also such wide aluminum profiles that can be used and what did you put between them, a specific adhesive? @ Pakon: And those were special panels from them, right? Do you also save time if they are double right away? Are they heavier?

We built our walls according to type W113 metal stud wall from Knauf. Of that, the simplest version with a sound insulation value of 56 db.

As far as I know, the panels are screwed onto the profiles. Just google Knauf W 113. There you will find PDFs with the wall construction.

I initially thought of sloping ceilings on this topic. But you are talking about normal interior walls here? What thickness do these panels have?
