Hello,
we have a brick-faced house (built in 1993) which we want/need to renovate. Originally, it was supposed to be just a new floor covering. Now we are dealing with new windows, a new heating system (oil condensing boiler), new interior doors, and an underfloor heating system for warm water. We want to convert windows into patio doors. Therefore, the radiators have to go. We do not have enough surface area for wall heating and we do not want ceiling heating.
The house has no basement. On the concrete slab there is 5 cm of polystyrene insulation and 5 cm of screed. The ground floor is to be completely covered with this (100 sqm).
Now there are 2 options remaining
1. A build-up solution.
Pipe carrier panel, pipe, and on top leveling screed (e.g. Knauf 425).
According to the manufacturer, the build-up height without floor covering is 20 mm.
The build-up solution costs about €3300 plus leveling screed (approx. €30/sqm).
2. The screed including insulation is completely removed. Presumably, the domestic water pipes also need to be renewed. With the complete solution, the price for new screed (old screed removed, new insulation and screed applied) is about €6800. I do not yet know the price of the underfloor heating and possibly new domestic water pipes.
The build-up solution has the disadvantage that interior doors, patio doors, and the front door must be adjusted.
With the complete solution, all furniture must be removed from the ground floor at the same time. The bathroom and guest toilet must also be removed. We do not have a bathroom available on the upper floor.
Whether we can stay in the house is not yet certain.
So far, everyone has advised us against the complete solution.
We also have an energy consultant. Nevertheless, the decision is not easier for us because of this.
If possible, we do not want to move out because we have animals in the outdoor enclosure. And if we can save the money, we are not unhappy about that either.
Maybe someone has advice or ideas.
I am grateful for any tip.
