Here I even created an overview for it:

Everything is doable if you want it!
But no one has to do it, for some (or even most) the new construction is probably the better project.

Well, when you hire craftsmen, not everything is perfect in the usual case either.

I'd rather spend time with my child and wife. No family father needs that stress, at least not if the wife also works full-time.

Contrary to popular belief, there are women who are useful on the construction site and enjoy doing such things. That means: depending on the people involved, the renovation can be something where you spend time together and do something together. Children can also be quite enthusiastic about helping, depending on their age.

Sure, but not everyone has the equity and/or income for a new house.

Other reasons:
- Otherwise you won’t get anything in an established neighborhood, only in ugly new development areas.
- Otherwise we would never have gotten so close to the train station. Since I have to go there every day to get to work, that was important.
- If new construction, then my wife would also have to work; now she can take care of the children for a few years.
- New construction would have been difficult with such a large plot. In new development areas you mostly get only 400 to 500 sqm plots, with a lot of luck maybe something around 700 sqm. But never 1600 sqm.

Everything has its pros and cons! But I really can’t stand this blanket badmouthing of one option.
