Hello,

I hope I have landed in the right subforum. I am a complete beginner, please just give me a small hint if I am doing something wrong!

A little about me: I am Robert, father of three children. We have bought an old house. It is being renovated and a large extension is being added.

Our children are putting a lot of thought into planning their rooms and of course want all their ideas to be implemented, which will not be possible. I would now like to get a program with which we can already furnish their planned rooms virtually. Can you give me some tips?

Thanks
Rob

Use Sweet Home 3D - import floor plan as background image, trace walls, adjust corresponding furniture from inventory to the dimensions or directly import the correct piece of furniture from the internet. Saved us from a big mistake with built-in furniture because it looks quite different in the 3D view than on paper.

Basically, the available standard furniture already gets you quite far - all of them can be adjusted in size. This way, you can already get a good sense of proportions and spatial effect. If you want it to look really nice, you can import (more modern) furniture, for example from 3dwarehouse (google it) (Attention, do not use a SketchUp file but Collada. Do not download directly from the overview page, but go to the detailed view, download, Collada).

SketchUp is still an alternative program, but I have never dealt with it.

Sweet Home 3D is very good and above all free. For the effect of lamps and the creation of lighting concepts, there is the free program from Dialux Evo. A free interior design consultation from a professional interior designer including an interior design concept is available with the purchase of a €39 shopping voucher at Ikea.
