Here the nonsense continues already. If a layman just marches ahead without dealing with the topic, it goes wrong with all known systems. From sand-lime brick to Ytong to the systems from Kern Haus with Styrofoam. There is no idiot-proof system with which you can build a house without any knowledge.

But if you take an hour to read and don't have two clumsy hands. Good grief. Aligning aerated concrete blocks on a string and a spirit level and then gluing row by row is not rocket science. The layman just needs about 5 times as long as the professional, especially at the beginning.

But no craftsman is a natural talent. It is primarily practice, practice, and practice. Welding comes from sweat, my trainer always said back then.

And once again for clarification: You learn absolutely nothing from just watching. My experience from 25 years. Apprenticeship, studies, and a good 16 years of work in special plant construction. You only learn when you do something... then come the questions, then come the problems.

So what’s got your goat? The DIY skills of the OP or their helper are unknown, and no one has claimed so far that something is "idiot-proof."

That gets you closest to the statement "idiot-proof" from all posts—right after your criticism of an oversimplified explanation.

For self-builders (so almost everything except technology), a Ytong house kit including support and instructions is recommended.

Thank you for your answers.

I did not mean in any sentence that I am better than a mason or BU, or whatever...

But I have been very skilled in craftsmanship for almost 20 years... I have already completed many, many projects and, due to my profession, I am a millimeter fetishist... That’s why I meant that I PROBABLY put more effort into setting the stones than a mason who does nothing else all day... YES, I also know that this is probably exaggerated on my part... But I think you know what I was aiming at...

And again... I have professional help in the background, who assists me on call, gives instructions, guidance, and teaching...

In the "self-build" project, it's also about the pure hard work... I wouldn’t want to set the first row of stones myself... Just as I wouldn’t want to build formwork for an intermediate ceiling, floor slab, etc... But I can lay Styrofoam for the floor slab myself... Just as an example...

I think aerated concrete 365mm with a subsequent exterior plastering by a specialist company will be the way to go...

Whereas plastering is actually not a difficult trade if you work properly and the preparatory work (sealing windows, window sills, etc.) is done well

I can well understand that someone (even especially as a frequent DIYer) lets the trained craftsmen also earn a bit of their bread and butter and, at the end, treats themselves with the money saved so that the finish of the house does not look as if the person had been to a dog groomer.
