Hello everyone,

we are currently still in the brainstorming phase and are therefore interested in the experiences and opinions of other (potential) builders.

Which basement did you have built and why? Looking back, are you satisfied with your decision? What would you do differently now? What would you consider particularly successful about your choice of basement?

If you have not built yet: What is your favorite and why?

We have a favorite among the various basement options, but we want to first see how you vote to avoid influencing anyone.

Best regards
Ddorfer

One of the reasons for us to build without a basement, so we don't have to go down into a basement! We have done that and are happy: it's better without one! Lower construction costs, about 9 sqm more floor space on the ground floor for freezer/utility room, storage room behind the garage, 5 sqm utility room on the upper floor balances it out, plus convenience in everyday life.

P.s. There are plenty of topics in this forum about yes/no to basements. Whether normal or on a slope: that depends on the plot. If we had a slope, we would probably have a basement where the main rooms would be located :)

Depends on the benefit.

If the plot is not too large and space is needed, then with a basement.

If the basement is also lived in and not just used for storage, then ceiling height at least 2.30 meters.

Without even being close to building... In my current opinion, if financially feasible, I would build with a basement. Somehow I like this isolated feeling more than, for example, having a "hobby room" (home theater, music studio, or similar) on the same floor. But I could be wrong... That's just my current opinion.

I think that the price per square meter of the property also plays a decisive role. In some regions, it is unfortunately now the case that the basement is (significantly) cheaper than providing the same area above ground.

Hello,

we have a slight slope (height difference of 2.2m over 25m plot length).

Since we demolished an old building that already had a basement, it was clear to us from the beginning that we would also build with a basement – partly because "the hole" was already there after the demolition, and partly because without a basement we would have had to do considerable support and filling.

In addition, due to the land prices of around EUR 500.00 per sqm, it was also clear to us that we wanted to have a partly residential basement (guest room and hobby room).

You see, this always depends on many different factors – the one optimal solution is rather rare...

Regards,

Dirk
