Hello everyone,

for our future living room, we are looking for a parquet floor. Unfortunately, the three parquet installers I have already contacted do not have anything suitable to offer. However, there is also the possibility that we buy the material and they install it.

Below are example photos in the order we prefer.

Do you know brands/shops where I might find something? Preferably not at sky-high prices.

The last photo shows a mosaic parquet at friends' place, which is larger than the 16cm format. That would also be interesting for us if we don’t find anything with the other variants.

Looking forward to the tips.

What are moon prices for you? "Top" goods can easily cost three digits.

I am happy to pay over 100 euros per square meter. But I’m reluctant to pay significantly more than that (our budget simply isn’t enough for that).

We were recommended three parquet installers, and they all offer prices within a reasonable range. Neither dumping prices nor overpriced. However, they only offer country plank, herringbone, or 16cm mosaic parquet. As mentioned above, I could also buy the material myself and have it installed.

I even traveled to Cologne to the store where the first photo comes from (they call the installation style Vienna). In the same store, they advertise prices starting at 87€ per square meter including material and labor. They promote this both online, in brochures, and in the first showroom. Herringbone is also affordable there. For the Vienna installation style, they ask about 450€ per square meter. 5!! times as much as the cheapest country plank. I don’t find that understandable and can’t afford it either. Their explanation was: “we have about 10% waste. And the installation is more elaborate than country plank.” They have this waste and extra effort with herringbone as well, but their prices don’t escalate like this there.

Long story short. In the age of the internet and oversupply, I hope you can get something beyond herringbone and country planks somewhere. We are happy to pay over 100€ in labor. I hoped that there are people here who know the market and can give me a tip :)

That will not work. Laying such patterns is anything but easy and only for real experts. That costs. There is no such thing as click parquet for that. There is no Tume solution for that.

Well, I'll just overlook the "happy" here. I actually only hear you complaining that you want something special at an average price. Take a look at the laying patterns: you're comparing the price of the desired laying pattern with country-style planks? That's already a bit cheeky or very uninformed. Even a layperson can see that you have to plan much better and cut more precisely with laying patterns than with normal planks. Among other things, because of your entitled attitude, well-trained craftsmen are dying out. Because people just don't value it anymore. Not even those who have the money to own a house and then want to have a special pattern laid. My opinion on the laying pattern: almost everything extravagant looks especially stupid in normal houses. I wouldn't do it anyway. I even decided against herringbone. Visually, it all becomes restless when you only have small areas and hardly any sightlines. A decent hourly wage for a self-employed craftsman is maybe 60 euros net (more likely more), leaving you 40 euros for the parquet. That's not exactly generously calculated by you. It would already have to be at least 50 euros more per hour.

In my experience with tiles, you only get what is currently available at a reasonably affordable price. Everything else is either not obtainable at all or only for a lot of money. Very few people install mosaic parquet today. Accordingly, the price is set. If you can even find a craftsman who can do it properly. And then he knows that he can do something special and charges accordingly.
