Wake me up when the OP has answered the follow-up questions, stated his problems, and credibly demonstrated that his own fault is close to zero. I may not like the big names, but dissatisfaction with them is by no means necessarily free of the "victims'" own contribution.
Anyone who goes to a general contractor without their own architect has obviously overlooked too many pieces of advice. A "site manager" on the payroll of the GC probably takes care of things, but not of the client’s concerns (who at best benefits from this care). Having your own site manager is just as indispensable as thoroughly reading and timely fulfilling your own obligations from the construction contract.
The rest may also be correct in content, but I think that the customer can expect that someone takes care of him for his money. Not holding hands daily like the star architect, but regularly.
