What kind of mailbox do you have and why?

3,000€ for a mailbox?! Well, the fun has to stop somewhere.

I also didn't want a mailbox that, whether thermally separated or not, leads directly into the interior of the building.

In our town, there was a rather "busy" "gang of kids" for a while who made a game out of blowing up mailboxes with New Year's Eve firecrackers.

For that reason alone, but also because of the other aforementioned "villains" and the thermal aspects, I much prefer a mailbox that hangs on the wall from the outside.

Since I handed out brochures as a child, I knew: I never want a letter slot in the door. I don't like cats anyway, but when one once scratched my hand while I was slipping the brochures through the slot, I was sure: these slots are no good!

With our dog that would not be possible at all, he would bite the postman's fingers directly and probably eat the mail afterwards. Also, children will certainly throw one thing or another in there from time to time.

Thank you all! So, we don’t have pets and we won’t be getting any. But my husband was already convinced by the argument that children or someone else might possibly throw nasty stuff directly into the house. So we will definitely do something "external".

Our dog wouldn't do that either, but for some of the reasons mentioned, I would also refrain from it.
