Hello everyone,
in our house built in 2007, there is only bare screed in the utility room. The builders back then probably cut costs in the budget and just left it like that.
The room is just under 7 sqm, and as usual, besides the technical equipment, there is also a washing machine, dryer, and freezer in it.
Directly adjacent to it is the kitchen, where tiles are laid and finish with a metal strip to the utility room, then it goes down a few millimeters to the screed.
Now, bare screed is neither visually appealing nor comfortable on the feet, so we would like to install a floor covering.
Option 1: Have tiles laid – but then we would first have to find a tiler who would take a job for 7 sqm with all those annoying cut-outs (pipes, etc.). I am not sure if we will find someone.
Option 2: DIY – lay something ourselves.
Can you recommend something that is suitable for a utility room and can be installed by ourselves? We are complete beginners in floor laying; we haven’t even laid laminate or carpet so far. We also don’t have any major tools. I am also not sure how we should manage the floor around all the pipes. You can make such collars around the cut-outs, but I still imagine it to be difficult.
It should be suitable for wet rooms, because with the washing machine etc., there can always be water. Our washing machine has leaked once, and the heating expansion tank has sprayed water before, so the floor should be able to withstand that.
Is this even sensible for beginners, or should we rather look for a tiler? Maybe you have experiences or ideas on how we could carry out the project cheaply but sensibly.
