Nice pub talk. The child benefit is just a drop in the ocean compared to the costs children cause. At most, one can debate up to which income level child benefit should still be paid. But that it is enormously important, especially for low and middle incomes, to allow children a somewhat decent life, hardly anyone can dispute. At our school, there have just been big discussions about the costs of a class trip. Regarding children, there was one thing in the GDR that was truly an achievement: everyone had a daycare place at minimal cost, and food and drinks for the children were partially free or also at minimal prices. We were top class in that regard, and it was great.
