Hi dear ones!!
My husband and I are considering building. At the moment, we live in a 120sqm house, built in 1960, with an oil heating system. Unfortunately, we used 5000 liters of oil last year, which we find a bit much. Since we also now have mold in both bathrooms (one of which is only used as a guest toilet), we have decided to move. Currently, we pay 650€ cold rent for our house, and with the additional costs (excluding heating) we are at 800€. That’s actually not much, but when I factor in the heating costs, it looks quite different again. At the moment, we should be saving about 250€ monthly. Which is really calculated quite tightly.
On top of our monthly expenses, there is a loan of 14,000€ that we pay off in monthly installments of 300€.
Now we received an offer from a real estate agent to build. He offered us a semi-detached house, which we didn’t like, so we discarded the idea again. Then we continued looking for an apartment, or a rental house. But no matter where we look, we don’t find what we imagine, or it is very expensive. Now he offered us a single-family house. We were almost able to warm up to the idea, but of course, we are still terrified of falling flat on our backsides.
Unfortunately, we have no equity and a 6-month-old daughter.
Net, we have about 2400€ per month. The house would cost around 200,000€. All included. So also notary and court fees, taxes, and everything else that would normally be incurred.
Do you think it is realistic and we should take the plunge????
Thanks in advance and best regards!! Miriam!
