Hello dear friends of my favorite forum,

Since we have extremely hard water in our construction area, I wonder if it wouldn’t make sense to install some kind of descaler right away. There are various methods, whose effectiveness is more or less verifiable. Has anyone had experience and even had something like that installed themselves? I would be grateful for any help!

In the work, we always install the devices from Grünbeck. BWT or Judo systems are also recommended. They may not be the cheapest to purchase, but they deliver what they promise. Definitely nothing with magnets, cartridges, or that kind of crap. That is money thrown away and does not provide any water softening at all.

Thanks already, AlexR20!
Do you know how the ones you mentioned work? Are the follow-up costs manageable?

The devices actually don't need any maintenance. You just have to refill the [Siedesalztabletten] for regenerating the ion exchange resin. Such a bag costs between 7-9€. Otherwise, I would read everything on the manufacturer's website.

Hello,

in our area we also have water with about 17 °dH and therefore had a duplex water softener installed. It has two columns so that one is always in operation while the other can regenerate. We were told that the whole system works according to the ion exchange process.

The system reduces our household water hardness to 8 °dH (we measured it ourselves). The difference is noticeably noticeable and I wouldn’t want to do without it anymore. None of our appliances have had to be descaled even once so far, the coffee tastes (subjectively) better than the neighbor's without a softening system, showering and bathing with such soft water is a dream.

The only thing we have to check regularly is the salt level on the device. We bought this cheaply in stock at the hardware store. Apart from refilling the salt, the system takes care of itself.

Best regards Stefan
