The smell will have settled in the silencers...the only help is to run a higher air exchange rate or replace them...otherwise, only use activated carbon filters.

I read in another construction blog that a family has exactly the same problem. They installed a filter box with a filter cassette. However, the price is really steep. How often does this filter cassette need to be replaced (150 euros), and where is the filter box installed on the device?

More homeowners have this problem than you think... when the wind is unfavorable for me or it is windless and the chimneys are running, it still draws in just the same, but my system simply shuts down meanwhile... The filter cassette is nothing special, it is simply more filter mats placed in front of the device in the intake tract... true to the principle: more helps more...

But it also increases the flow resistance and thus the power consumption

Yes, similar to new cars when it smells outside, the cars nowadays switch to recirculation and back again... but that is another topic.
