Hello everyone,

our tiler has almost finished his work. Although we have a (in our opinion) very good tiler, there is still a lot of waste left.

It is exactly this waste that gives me a headache. After all, we chose the desired tiles and paid accordingly, and now X square meters of tiles would have to be disposed of.

I keep thinking about how to use part of the tile waste in a sensible way. Most of the tiles are not smooth, but rather roughened.
My first idea was to use them for a barbecue area or possibly partially for the terrace. The tiles would be laid similarly to natural stones – a bit like puzzle pieces. However, after consulting various members of my family, this idea was discarded.
My father suggested the idea that the entire waste should be completely crushed and distributed as "tile gravel." I have my doubts about that. On the one hand, I can imagine that the "tile gravel" might become sharp-edged. On the other hand, it is still a waste of the expensive tiles.

But – what else can be made from the waste? Here I hope for feasible and creative suggestions from you. So get typing.

I wouldn't desperately look for a use for the "trash". Off to the recycling center...

Normal waste should be disposed of by the tiler. However, there was almost nothing left with us either, as many tiles were laid in a random pattern. Whole tiles are stored with us in the furthest corner of the attic in case a tile breaks at some point while drilling, dropping an object, etc.

We will also keep a plentiful package of each type of tile. The tile dealer takes back other unopened packages (except for the bathroom floor tiles, which were discontinued).
If we had obtained the tiles through our general contractor, the tiler would dispose of the waste. Since we bought the tiles ourselves, we also have to dispose of the leftover.
Due to the tiles (structure and color), only the living room could be laid in a random pattern. All other tiles were laid "neatly ordered" — therefore, the waste is larger here. It's not about desperately reusing them — nor about the 15 euros (per ton) I have to pay at the recycling center for construction waste disposal. Those costs will be incurred anyway because other things also need to be disposed of.
I just believe that there are definitely ideas and possibilities (which I currently can’t think of) to still put the larger waste pieces to good use.
A much-praised trait of us (native) East Germans: We don’t just throw everything away immediately but consider whether there are reasonable ways to reuse it (making gold out of sh... was an important skill in the non-surplus society). Well — only I’m still missing the brilliant idea here .
Therefore, the question to our user community.

Hello f-pNo,

would it perhaps be an idea to use the tile offcuts to cover a counter or a table?

Before everyone "stones" me now, I am not a fan of the "association of tile table owners" either, but for an outdoor counter (barbecue area or similar), such a tile covering (provided the tiles are frost-resistant) wouldn't be the worst idea, I think...

Regards,

Dirk

Or a mosaic table? They would just have to be nice tiles.. Or a little house for rodents? I think they do that in some rodent houses with tiles Otherwise maybe just Google it, there are surely many craft ideas with tiles.
