Based on the experience we had with my sister's apartment, I would strongly advise against external shading.
In this maisonette apartment of my sister, we installed electric external roller shutters on three skylights.
Since the installation 5 years ago, the manufacturer's service technician (one of the two major skylight manufacturers) has been a permanent visitor in the apartment, since the shutters very regularly stop working.
Each roller shutter has now been completely replaced three times (!!!). However, the problems persist.
In our "old" apartment, we therefore installed a thermal/blackout roller blind from the inside, which has always perfectly fulfilled its purpose.
