Hello everyone,

I am currently renovating my old building and want to install underfloor heating on the ground floor. This is to be done in dry construction. Now, there are different providers who follow partially different solution approaches. There is the variant of 8mm pipe up to 20mm pipe – the advantage would be that the 8mm pipe results in a lower floor buildup. My question is, what is recommended? It should be mentioned, of course, that the thermal insulation to the outside is regulated by new windows – and a wall thickness of 60cm which is not supported by external thermal insulation.

Thanks for your support
Regards, Jürgen

Did I understand correctly that an old floorboard floor is to be replaced by a floor with underfloor heating? Or is underfloor heating to be installed in combination with new floorboards?

Hello hampshire You are of course right that my description was very vague. I want to remove the plank floor on the ground floor, install OSB boards, and lay underfloor heating on top. (I think that doing everything with dry screed boards could cause a weight problem - but I am also open to suggestions here)

On the upper floor, I want to remove the old plank floor and replace it with a new one. An exception is the bathroom, where OSB boards and underfloor heating should be used, as on the ground floor.

What is important to me is whether the significantly thinner system with 8mm would really be good or if I should prefer a system with thicker pipes?

Thanks for the support

As a big fan of wooden floors, I unfortunately cannot wholeheartedly recommend your project. (Schon mal nach wandintegrierten Lösungen geforscht? Our underfloor heating (2001), which is apparently poorly or badly installed as some forum members here suspect, is not a desirable heating solution. It is now worth something for resale, that is an advantage. Good luck with your implementation.
