Hello everyone,
we are currently choosing tiles for our bathroom and we generally like tiles with a wood look very much. However, we want to have wooden flooring installed outside the bathroom and are now wondering if the transition from the tiles to the wooden floor can look good. We will certainly not match the exact shade of the tiles with the wooden floor and are now concerned that the transition might look like "trying too hard" rather than skillful because the wood colors clash.
Has anyone had experience with this and can tell us if it still looks good or if the transition is not noticeable at all?
Thanks!

This is easily avoided by deliberately choosing a clearly different tone; possibly also changing the direction of the installation. My bigger concerns would be 1. the build-up heights of both coverings and 2. the dimensional accuracy of all "parties" involved in the transition (profile). Perhaps can clarify this?

Friends of ours have done that with strongly contrasting wood colors, but a similar smooth texture - personally, I don't like it that much and we decided against wood-look tiles for our house.

You always have a sharp break from the bathroom to the hallway... no matter what kind of tiles (classic, wood-look, light, dark). The bathroom door is usually closed, so you only notice the difference when the door is open. We have dark slate tiles in the bathroom and then dark wood-look tiles (mahogany) in the hallway and all the upper rooms. We also repeated the hallway tiles on one shower wall in the bathroom. I don’t think the transition stands out negatively. Downstairs in the hallway we have black and white checkerboard tiles and parquet in the living room... the transition also isn’t “trying too hard.”

Yes, that looks really good with you! The general transition from tiles to wood does not worry me either, but from wood-look tiles to wooden floors – the surfaces are visually similar but not exactly the same... If there is a clear cut like with you, then the transition is no problem.

Strongly contrasting wood colors would not be an option for us either, I don't like such a wood mix... It should look similar - at least from a distance - but when you look more closely you will still see the difference..
