Good evening,
we asked the house manufacturer about a topping-out ceremony a few months ago and he said that it is no longer done for prefabricated houses.
However, several acquaintances have already brought it up and now we are somehow very unsure... topping-out ceremony yes or no??? And if yes, does the construction company have to agree?
Thanks for your tips......

We had our topping-out ceremony after the erection and roofing.

If it is your property, you can celebrate on it, whether the construction company likes it or not. If the company does not want to, there is no topping-out speech.

In my opinion, the topping-out ceremony is nowadays done more for friends and neighbors than for the construction workers. They build so many houses a year, they are happy when it's quitting time...

We also built a house using timber frame construction and the team that assembled the house said that due to time pressure (in the week a team has to assemble 2 1/2 houses) they do not hold a topping-out ceremony with the builders. We therefore held the topping-out ceremony without the craftsmen after the house was erected with friends, neighbors, and family. It’s best if you ask your assembly team yourself on the first day how they handle it.

Yes!!! And don't forget to invite the neighbors - it promotes future togetherness!

Hello,

we also built a timber frame house.

Our master carpenter told us similar things as wrote – the craftsmen are so busy during the construction days that they are really glad when the workday is over. Therefore, we waived a traditional topping-out ceremony and instead supplied our construction team with food and drinks.

With family, friends, and neighbors, we instead celebrated a nice housewarming party after moving in.

Regards,

Dirk
