Hello,

We have planned a 170x75 cm window on the west side of the house on the ground floor and first floor. Now, the thing is, my wife really wants to decide on the tilt window for aesthetic reasons (because 1.70 m width just doesn’t work with a single sash). The problem is, of course, that one cannot use the window for shock ventilation, and it is also not particularly easy to clean.

I would personally prefer to have the turn-tilt window (i.e. two sashes) installed, so that it can be opened normally. Sure, it looks a bit less nice because of the middle bar, but in my opinion it is much more practical. Additionally, I think that such a window can be left open longer in the evening and morning without having to worry about critters slipping inside through the terrace doors.

Does the forum have any ideas on how this could possibly be "solved" differently?

Thanks and regards

Just no regular tilt-and-turn windows if you can’t easily reach them from the outside, which is rarely the case with skylights. We once had that in an attic rental apartment, where the windows over the course of a few years became increasingly green with algae/moss or the like and thus less transparent, because you simply couldn’t get to the spots to clean them. So either you have to go up on the roof regularly or sooner or later you will probably always have such problems.

Which is not a problem. That is actually more difficult on the upper floor, but doable with a ladder (after all, cleaning is not done that often). For what reason? Plenty of critters come in through open windows as well... Before I install a tilt window, I would rather choose fixed glazing directly. I have also chosen this myself for two windows because of the view (although only on the ground floor).

Fully opening for fresh air and also for cross-ventilation is much better. With these windows, I can easily install fly screens against the critters, which is always more complicated/less attractive with patio doors.

I can understand fixed glazing because of the view, although here you only look at the neighbor's wall. So that can rather be neglected ;-)

Are the windows that can be rotated around the horizontal axis no longer available? A sash that can be fully opened for ventilation and cleaning.

You have to agree among yourselves, we cannot take that away from you. At that point, I would either use fixed glazing or double-leaf. Regarding cleaning, there are also these telescopic poles with hose connection.
