Hello everyone,

We just can't decide whether to lay tiles only in the entrance area and guest WC and use vinyl in the rest of the ground floor (kitchen, living and dining area), or to use tiles for the entire ground floor.

With tiles, it would of course be nice and uniform. However, we are somewhat afraid that it will be too cold on the feet—at least during the times when the underfloor heating is not running. With vinyl, rooms naturally look a bit warmer/more homely.

What are your experiences?

Thanks in advance!
Best regards

I think that is totally a matter of taste. Many neighbors around here install tiles and underfloor heating. I myself don't like the feeling of tiles on my feet and it will likely be a design floor.

Whichever top covering
one chooses: here personal tastes are decisive, but mostly also the content of the wallet.
A uniform appearance is achieved by continuous laying of the identical covering de facto with any chosen top covering, whether it is ceramic or a plastic floor such as PVC or comparable.
Against cold feet, if one were to show a particular sensitivity to this point with the desire for exclusively a ceramic covering, there is the possibility to equip the decisive surface parts beneath the tiles (specifically means: laid in the adhesive bed) with an electric underfloor heating system.
This technical solution, which only adds about 3 mm thickness, does not have to be associated with exorbitant follow-up costs if it is not used as the sole room heating (this could be done, but does not have to), but only as a slight floor warming.
The technology has been mature for years; the heat is available at the top of the tiles within a few minutes after switching on the heating.

Wishing you a good decision
